The National Open Art Competition, Chichester

THE CHICHESTER ART TRUST

The Chichester Art Trust, set up as a charity in 1995, administrates the annual National Open Art Competition and the subsequent annual National Open Art Exhibition......Chichester.

The trust has the following aims:

  • To promote creativity and excellence
  • To exhibit a wide and challenging range of contemporary paintings, drawings, original prints, art photographs and wall hung installations assemblages
  • To encourage traditional as well as new techniques and skills in all five disciplines
  • To encourage younger artists and art students
  • To exhibit selected works in a free to access public gallery space
  • To help artists sell their work online and at the exhibitions
  • To widen the public understanding of, involvement with and access to art and artists
  • To give the public access to high quality art at affordable prices and make the general public more aware of the quality and talent available in ‘affordable’ art

The Trust held its first exhibition in 1996 and was instigated by The Duke of Richmond as a part of his personal vision to see Chichester become nationally and internationally known as a “City of The Arts” by 2020. By virtue of the immense number of Arts and Heritage facilities in the immediate area this vision is already to some extent realised. These include The Festival and Minerva Theatres; Pallant House Gallery; The Cass Sculpture Foundation; West Dean College; Chichester University and Chichester College Arts Faculties; Chichester Cathedral and Chichester Festivities; Goodwood House and Petworth House with their art treasures and major international events; Fishbourne Roman Palace; The Oxmarket Gallery: The Joy Festival and many others.
