The Chichester Art Trust's main interest is the annual National Open Art Exhibition, staged in Chichester in November.
Its aims are:
- to promote creativity and excellence
- to exhibit a wide and challenging range of contemporary paintings, drawings and prints, both traditional and modern
- to encourage younger artists and art students
- to exhibit their work in public exhibition
- to help artists sell their work
- to widen public understanding of, involvement in and access to art and artists
- to make people more aware of the quality and talent available in affordable art
The Trust was formed in 1996 by the Duke of Richmond to help develop “Chichester, City of the Arts” and along with other artistic establishments in the area, this vision has been realised. They include; Pallant House Gallery, West Dean College, The Cass Sculpture Park, The University of Chichester, The Chichester Cathedral to name but a few.
The Trust is a key supporter of SWAG; The South West/West Sussex Arts Group – SWAG is a charitable Arts organisation dedicated to promoting and developing the South West /West Sussex Area as a major centre for the Visual and Performing Arts.
